This is a hard-to-find 1940s purple velvet skirted coat. Its most extraordinary feature is it’s large buttons. Covered in velvet with gold coloured metal and crystal beading, it’s buttons are in perfect condition. There are three buttons down the front of the coat ending just above the natural waist and two slightly smaller buttons decorating the v-shaped half belt that is affixed to the back of the coat. These two buttons are on the far left and far right hand side of this half-belt. From these back buttons, the remainder of the belt is attached which is long enough to wrap around to the front of the coat and tie at the waist. There is also a hidden snap at the natural waist. There is deep, wide pleating at the back of the coat giving it its fullness and tiny pleating at the front of the waistline only going upwards. The sleeves are full-length dolman sleeves. There are two pockets and two shoulder pads.
